The Duke's removal from the last vestiges of royal life has not only altered his path - it's sending ripples through his immediate relatives too.
The former spouse has now surrendered her ducal status and will now be referred to as Sarah Ferguson.
For Sarah, sixty-six, the change will be the most visible.
Throughout this period, she has maintained the honorary royal divorcee title Sarah, York Duchess. Currently, she reverts to her maiden name of Ferguson.
"She has lost a bit of cachet over this," noted one royal commentator. "She definitely utilizes the title – even her Twitter bio is @TheDuchessSarah."
But the relinquishment of her status may affect her much less than the scandal she's facing separately about her own links with the convicted financier.
Last month, multiple organizations dropped her as ambassador after correspondence from 2011 revealed that she called Epstein her "greatest ally" and seemed to apologise for her negative comments of him.
Away from her charitable activities, Ferguson also has multiple commercial enterprises.
And these, too, are more likely to be impacted by the Epstein scandal than any alteration in status, notes one royal commentator.
But Ferguson has been a great survivor in monarchical networks. She's kept bouncing back.
"She's the ultimate survivor and expert at transforming," commented one monarchy writer.
For the couple's offspring, Beatrice, thirty-seven, and Eugenie, thirty-five, there's no formal change.
They continue to be referred to as royal princesses, which they have been granted since their birth.
Additionally there is no change to the line of succession.
Andrew remains eighth in line to the crown, succeeded by his children Beatrice and Eugenie, in ninth and twelfth position in that order.
But in practice their standing are "low down" and will likely become even more remote as time goes on.
Beatrice and Eugenie are also presently non-working royals, and while they do sometimes accept positions – Princess Eugenie was recently named as a advisor for the monarch's charity network – experts also suggest they "can't see a scenario" in which they would advance into official responsibilities.
"Regarding Beatrice and Eugenie are concerned, I think there's an understanding of the fact that this scandal doesn't involve them, and it's unjust for it to affect them personally in the separate paths they are building for themselves," says one monarchy analyst.
"Their daughters are most unfortunate victims, they've had to suffer in silence and have been dignified in their silence," states another monarchy writer.
In the end, there seems to be little doubt that the individual who will be most impacted by all of this will be the Duke himself.
For someone who always liked the royal privileges, the ceremony and the ceremony, the relinquishment of his honors is deeply humiliating.
So to not have those, on a personal level, will really matter.
