Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have found plenty of entertaining creations from small studios. Yet, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure lets you play a protagonist that is actually a turd trying to navigate to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
How you interact is simple: just use a jump control. In 150 levels, encounter mini-bosses and unlock a market to purchase customizations for your dung hero.
Execute your jumps precisely, since one wrong move means beginning again. Bounce off bubbles to hurl your character to new heights, traverse crumbling platforms, and activate switches to open hidden paths. Gather currency to purchase more difficult stages as the action intensifies.
Visually, the game boasts neon stages and a killer background music. Its minimalist graphics of shifting geometric shapes evokes memories of players of classic titles like Earthbound.
While it's hard to recall similar titles where you play as a coiled turd, interactive entertainment have long included scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players create explosives from protagonist excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as fertilizer. And of course, fecal references appears heavily in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its silly premise, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive recognition, including being named best at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is accessible at present on Steam, with the complete version set to arrive on Steam this November.
