Renovation efforts has commenced on a section of the Executive Mansion's East Wing as work move forward for the creation of a proposed presidential ballroom.
Construction crews started removing significant portions of a covered entryway and windows in the East Wing earlier this week, with the renovation being labeled a "total renovation" of the structure.
The quarter-billion dollar event space expansion was previously described as being "located near" the present facility without altering its historic appearance.
"It won't interfere with the present facility. It shall not. It'll be near but not attached - and demonstrates full consideration to the present facility, which I'm the strongest supporter of," was stated in a previous announcement. "It's my preferred. It's my favorite place. I cherish it."
The construction project was revealed through online platforms, with announcement that "work has commenced" on the "long-awaited" event area.
"For over 150 years, every President has dreamt about having a Event Space at the White House to accommodate people for grand parties, official functions, etc," was written in the announcement.
The undertaking is being supported through private means by "numerous dedicated supporters" according to public announcements.
The White House has functioned as the historic home of the nation's chief executive for two centuries. The eastern section was first built in 1902 and was last modified in 1942.
From the southern exposure of the facility, onlookers could see several large pieces of construction equipment - some adorned with US flags - positioned near the East Wing.
The covered entryway, which extends across the East Wing's south side, appeared to be being stripped, with demolition materials and industrial cords easily seen from multiple city blocks away.
The renovation efforts had brought a limited group of curious onlookers who halted to question photographers and reporters about the present operations.
One female, who was sporting a protective gear and a placard with an opposing slogan on it, expressed her dismay. She declined to provide her name.
"I disapprove," she said - ostensibly talking to the air - as she motioned toward the White House from adjacent to a yellow truck that was positioned in the vicinity. "Observe the changes to it!"
